How it works….

How it works on a daily basis…

After enrollment, we will consult with you to determine the courses your student needs for the year, and we will sketch out the curriculum map for the subsequent years. Once this is done, we will build your student’s online access in our course delivery system. We will email you both parent access and student access info.

We will host an orientation sessions the last week of August to introduce the students and parents to the organization of the courses. Orientation will ensure students understand the organization of the online interface, and various ways to contact us for help.

Here is a short run-down on how the courses are used in a daily basis by the distance students:

Keep in mind that you will have a normal school year (Normally 180 days from Sept. 1 through May 27th) to finish courses.

At the beginning of the year, during the last week in August, you will read the introduction modules of each of your courses. This module will acquaint you with your course goals, guides, and resources as well as any unique course features. In this module, you find the pacing guide tool, and you will print your initial pacing guide or personalized syllabus. This is your guide for the year. You may choose to pace yourself by a start date and a personalized final date, or input a certain number of minutes per day. Either way you can regenerate this pacing guide any time. This is the week to set up your binders and assemble any needed supplies.

From the first week on, you should log-in to your course delivery system every day and for each course complete the reading, study and assignments for each course. Your pacing guide for the week should be used to dictate the number of lessons that need to be done per day in any given course (Normally there will be five assignments per week per course).

Each day the lesson reading, supplemental media, and the assignment may vary. Some days it’s reading, practice work, and homework. Some times it is review, study and a quiz. At the end of each module there are tests and projects.

If you don’t complete all the assignments during the week, make up the work over the weekend. This will prevent you from reshuffling the assignments in the pacing guide and ending up with more than five assignments per week.

If you know are going to need a free day or more, it is a good idea to work ahead and stay on schedule. If you are going to need some time off during the normal school week, you will need to let your teachers know so they can help you with your schedule.
